On February 16, 2011, Board Chairman Dwight Wood and Director Pete Pickett attended the 10th anniversary celebration at the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA.

The museum has more than 24,000 items in its collection, the majority of which were acquired between 1994 and 1999 under the guidance of Mayor Stephen R. Reed, the museum’s founder.

The museum’s mission is unique in that their collections represent the years 1850 through 1876 and emphasize the human side of the conflict both military and civilian. No bias toward either side can be seen in their displays or on their website. Because the museum was founded as a historically correct caretaker of many thousands of bits of history and continues in that approach today, the Pickett Society was pleased to present the founder, Stephen R. Reed, with the Society’s Clifford Dowdey Award for Historical Correctness on the occasion of the museum’s 10th anniversary.
